When the cat suddenly tenses up, jumps, or runs away, this can also be a sign of discomfort, pain, or stress. There is also Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome (FHS), which is a collective term for sudden wild behavior in cats. This is triggered by an underlying health problem. Symptoms of FHS can include epilepsy and back problems, but the animal also often shows unexpected and involuntary skin twitches and muscle cramps. Fortunately, this condition is not very common.
