What snacks do you give a dog with overweight?
Help! Your dog is overweight, but you still want to treat him to a snack now and then. Those puppy eyes are hard to resist after all… What should you do? Here are 3 tips!

1. Choose snacks with a low fat content
If you want to give your dog a snack occasionally, choose healthy options with a low fat content. At Riverwood, we have several snacks that contain less than 10% fat, perfect for overweight dogs. Think of the Riverwood venison hide, deer hide, and horse hide. For fish lovers, we also have the Riverwood salmon skin with meat, catshark, and squid, all of which are low in fat. These snacks are not only low in fat but also super tasty.
2. Use kibble as a snack
Do you want to give your dog a treat without adding extra calories? Consider using some of their daily kibble as a reward. Weigh the kibble you give as a treat and subtract this amount from the total kibble you feed your dog that day. This ensures your dog doesn’t get extra calories but still gets rewarded. It’s a smart way to include snacks without disrupting their diet.
3. Natural snacks from your own kitchen
Another great option is to give healthy snacks from your own kitchen, such as various vegetables that are not only nutritious but also low in calories. For example, you can give your dog carrots, green beans, cucumber, and beets. These vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals that support your dog’s energy and health. They’re a delicious way to spoil your dog without adding extra calories.

Don’t forget exercise!
Besides healthy food and responsible snacks, exercise is also crucial for our dogs to lose weight and maintain a healthy weight. Make sure your dog walks, plays, and stays active regularly. This not only supports weight loss but also promotes the overall health and well-being of your four-legged friend.
