Anyone who has ever had a flea bite knows how it feels. A flea bite causes a sharp, brief sting and is an unpleasant sensation. So you can easily imagine that flea bites can quickly become very annoying. A cat bitten by a flea can certainly be startled by it. Especially strange behavior combined with meowing and scratching can mean that the cat is hypersensitive to flea bites or has an itch in a spot it can't reach.

Learn to read your cat's body language

Then it could be that he gets bored during the day and doesn't have enough stimulation. In that case, make sure you give your cat enough attention and also ensure he has enough distraction when he is home alone.

Over time, this makes it easier to see whether the crazy 5 minutes come from playfulness and excess energy, or if there might be something else going on with the cat. When the cat suddenly tenses up, jumps, or runs away, this can also be a sign of discomfort, pain, or stress. There is also Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome (FHS), which is a collective term for sudden wild behavior in cats. This is triggered by an underlying health problem. Symptoms of FHS can include epilepsy and back problems, but the animal also often shows unexpected and involuntary skin twitches and muscle cramps. Fortunately, this condition is not very common.
