Is it bad for a dog to eat the same food every day?

The answer to this question is quite simple: no, it is not harmful. You can safely give your dog the same food every day. While humans have around 9,000 taste receptors, dogs have only about 1,700. Although humans and dogs can taste largely the same things, dogs’ sense of taste is much less pronounced due to their smaller number of taste receptors. As a result, they do not feel the need to eat something different every day.

However, it is important that a dog receives a complete, high-quality food so that it gets all the recommended daily amounts of nutrients. But how do you know whether you are giving your dog high-quality dog food? In this blog, we share 5 tips on what good dog food should contain.

Variety in dog food

The fact that dogs do not feel the need to eat something different every day does not mean that they cannot appreciate variety. Varying their food can even offer health benefits and help prevent taste fatigue in fussy dogs. It is important, however, that the dog does not have any food allergies or intolerances. You can add variety to your dog’s daily menu in several ways, for example by alternating between different types of meat (animal protein sources). Different animal protein sources have different amino acid and fatty acid profiles, as well as different minerals and vitamins. You can also choose to combine dry food with wet food.
