Apply a bandage to dogs
What do you need?
- Cotton roll
- Adhesive bandage
- Betadine
- Sterile gauze pads
- Petflex
- Vetramil
Step-by-step guide
- Rinse the wound clean
- Disinfect the wound by dabbing it gently
- Take a gauze pad and apply some Vetramil
- Wrap the Petflex loosely around the padding and secure the bandage so that the pressure is distributed evenly.
- If necessary, use an adhesive fixation bandage to prevent the bandage from slipping down.
Tips
- Make sure the wound is covered with a sterile gauze pad first.
- Do not skimp on the cotton. It is important to have a good underlayer for proper pressure distribution.
- Make sure the pressure is distributed evenly.
- Each new wrap of the bandage should overlap the previous wrap slightly.
- Apply a fresh bandage regularly and check that the wound does not become infected.
- Be careful with medication under the bandage. If it becomes too warm, the healing process may be delayed. This increases the risk of a wound infection.
