Puppy food

Healthy nutrition is important for every dog, but for puppies, it plays a crucial role in their development and growth. Healthy puppy food lays the foundation for the optimal growth and development of your new little friend! By giving your puppy a high-quality food, you are providing a solid foundation for your pup to grow into a healthy adult dog.

Your puppy needs balanced amounts of a wide range of nutrients, such as vitamins A and C, calcium, and phosphorus. The amounts of protein and fat must also meet the nutritional needs of a growing pup. Protein is needed for building muscles, skin and coat, and other body tissues. A pup should not consume too much, but certainly not too little, protein and fat either. That is why you should always choose a food specially developed for puppies. This food contains balanced amounts of various nutrients tailored to the nutritional needs of a still-growing pup.

Healthy nutrition also contributes to the proper development of, among other things, the immune system and strong bones. Feeding lower-quality food, or giving your puppy too little or too much food, can have adverse consequences for your pup when they reach adulthood. To prevent this, it is important to give your pup healthy puppy kibble.

At Riverwood, we believe that dogs are true carnivores and are not built to digest large amounts of grains properly. In addition, grains can cause food intolerances or food allergies. For these reasons, Riverwood has consciously chosen to remain grain-free, because we believe that healthy dog food is low in grains or completely grain-free. Naturally, Riverwood puppy food is also grain-free, in order to meet the animal’s nutritional needs as closely as possible.

Riverwood offers two varieties of food suitable for puppies: Riverwood Puppy and Riverwood Junior Large Breed. Riverwood Puppy has been specially developed for puppies of small and medium-sized breeds (with an adult weight of ≤25 kg). Riverwood Junior Large Breed has been developed for puppies of large breeds (with an adult weight of >25 kg or more). During the first 3 months of their lives, every puppy receives Riverwood Puppy food. After these 3 months, puppies of large breeds can switch to Riverwood Junior Large Breed. This food can be given up to the age of 30 months. But what makes Riverwood so suitable for puppies?

Smaller breeds need more energy because a smaller dog uses more energy than a large dog of the same age. They are also less susceptible to bone and joint problems. Every food contains glucosamine and chondroitin to support the joints. MOS and FOS are also included; these act as prebiotics to support digestion.

Riverwood Junior Large Breed has a lower protein and fat percentage than the Riverwood Puppy variety. The Junior Large Breed variety therefore contains less energy, which is necessary for slow and steady growth, because growth that is too rapid can lead to bone and joint disorders. So do not give your large-breed puppy food that is too high in energy. Depending on their adult weight, you can give your puppy Riverwood Junior Large Breed up to the age of 30 months; this is because large-breed puppies grow for longer than their smaller counterparts.

For dogs of large breeds, the energy and calcium content is crucial in preventing problems such as growing pains. Overfeeding is an important cause of growing pains, especially in growing dogs of large breeds. Excessive energy intake stimulates rapid growth, while calcium and phosphorus have a major influence on bone development.

Always make sure that you give your puppy the correct daily amount of food. The feeding guide can be found on the back of the food packaging. How to read the feeding table is explained in the FAQ.

Try to feed your puppy at set times. This way, you can provide consistency and structure in your puppy’s new life.
