PUPPY FOOD

Healthy nutrition is of great importance for any dog, but healthy nutrition plays a vital role in the development and growth of puppies. Healthy puppy food sets up the foundation for optimal growth and development of your new little friend! High-quality food ensures a good foundation for your puppy to grow into a healthy adult dog.

Your puppy needs balanced amounts of a wide variety of nutrients, such as vitamins A and C, calcium and phosphorus. The amounts of proteins and fats must also match the nutritional needs of a growing puppy. Proteins are necessary for the building of the muscles, the skin and coat and other body tissues. A puppy should not consume too much, but certainly not too little protein and fats. Therefore, you always need to choose a food that has been specially developed for puppies, as this contains balanced amounts of various nutrients that are adapted to the nutritional needs of a growing puppy.

Healthy food also contributes to the proper development of, among other things, the immune system and strong bones. If you give a food of poor quality, or if you give your puppy too little or too much food, this can have negative consequences for your puppy when he is an adult. To prevent this, it is important to provide your puppy with healthy puppy food.

At Riverwood, we believe that dogs are true carnivores who are not built to digest large amounts of grains properly. In addition, grains can cause food intolerances or food allergies. For these reasons, it was consciously chosen to keep Riverwood grain-free, because we believe that healthy dog food is nearly grain-free or completely grain-free. Of course, Riverwood puppy food is also grain-free to meet the animal's nutritional needs.

Riverwood has two varieties of food that are suitable for puppies, namely Riverwood Puppy and Riverwood Junior Large BreedRiverwood Puppy has been specially developed for small and medium breed puppies (with an adult weight of ≤25 kg). Riverwood Junior Large Breed is designed for large breed puppies (adult weight> 25 kg or above). For the first 3 months of their life, each puppy is fed Riverwood Puppy Food. After these 3 months, large breed puppies are allowed to transfer to Riverwood Junior Large Breed. This food may be given up to the age of 30 months. But why is  Riverwood so appropriate for puppies?

Smaller breeds need more energy, because smaller dog uses more energy than a large dog of the same age. They are also less sensitive to bone and joint problems. Each food contains glucosamine and chondroitin to support the joints. In addition, MOS and FOS are present, which act as prebiotics to support digestion.

The protein and fat percentage in the Riverwood Junior Large Breed is lower than in the Riverwood Puppy variant. The Junior Large Breed variant therefore contains less energy, which is necessary for a slow and even growth, because a too fast growth can lead to bone and joint disorders. Do not give your large puppy food that is too energy-rich. Depending on the adult weight, you can give Riverwood Junior Large Breed up to the age of 30 months; this is because large breed puppies grow longer than their smaller counterparts.

For large breed dogs, energy and calcium levels are crucial in preventing problems such as growing pains. Overfeeding is a major cause of growing pains, especially for growing large breed dogs. Excessive energy intake stimulates rapid growth and calcium and phosphorus have a major influence on bone development.

Always make sure you give your puppy the correct daily amount of food. The feeding schedule is located on the back of the nutritional packaging. How to read the nutritional table is explained in the FAQ.

Try to feed your puppy at a set time. In this way you can ensure stability and structure in your puppy's new life.
