There exist several dangers with regards to artificial additions. Dogs could react badly to BHA and BHT. For example, BHA can raise the fat levels and cholesterol in the blood. BHA and BHT are chemicals added to the fats as artificial preservatives. These can be found in pet food and rewards treats. BHT is more toxic and is added to extend the shelf life of the color.
All these additions do not have an effect on the nutritions in the food. It is only added to make the food more attractive to the owner. A dog does not care about the color of its food.
Natural preservatives such as Vitamin C and E (antioxidants), are a much better option in dog food.
