Dental care of your dog

Few owners apply dental care on the advice of the veterinarian. Good dental care prevents serious problems in your dog. Bad dog teeth can be recognized by bad breath, plaque or tartar.

Despite having special therapies    at the vet, prevention is better than cure. Preventively you can brush the dog teeth.

Brushing my dog's teeth

Start brushing your dog's teeth once he reaches the age of 2  to  3 months. The sooner you start, the easier it's going to get in the  end.

If you are going to brush the dog's teeth, you need to purchase a special dog toothbrush and toothpaste for this. Toothpaste that people use is not suitable for the dog, because this can cause stomach problems.

Proceed step by step:

  1. Start lifting the head and upper lip.
  2. Gently brush your finger over the teeth and molars.
  3. As soon as the dog likes this, you can put some toothpaste on your finger and continue ironing.
  4. Later, you can try to use a toothbrush.

It is important that you brush the teeth with a rotating movement, on the transition from tooth to gums. Make sure that the rear molars and the outside of the canines are not forgotten. It is best when you brush your dog's teeth every day, but if it is done 2 or 3 times a week, the amount of plaque already decreases by 90%.

Give your dog time to get used to it, because it can take weeks to months for this to go easily. It is therefore important that you make sure that the dog experiences brushing teeth as something nicer. You can reward him after brushing his teeth with a tooth-friendly cookie or by playing with him. This ensures that the dog does not see brushing teeth as something annoying.

Another possibility is sticky toothpaste. This is a paste that you apply to the oral cavity on the cheek side, and then massage in.

In addition, there is also special dietary nutrition on the market to maintain healthy teeth. These chunks are larger than normal, with a different structure. In this way, the teeth are cleaned. In addition, it contains minerals such as calcium. Look in our range for the possibilities!
